Orangetown proposes plan for new community center

Posted: Updated:

A new community center could be coming to Orangetown.

Town Supervisor Chris Day is submitting a request for a new structure. If the building is approved, it will be located on Chief Bill Harris Way, where the old tennis courts currently sit.

The amenities would include basketball courts, a track, a full kitchen and meeting rooms. "Kids don't have a place to go for recreation after school. There's no public gyms, no public basketball courts. Just another asset for the community to use. There's been a lot of demand for it for many years so we're trying to find a way to make it work," says Day.

Day says taxpayers will not be affected and that the plan is to pay for the community center with cash from land sales in Rockland County.
