Warwick welcomes medical marijuana facility

Posted: Updated:
WARWICK -

Construction of a $10 million, 40,000-square-foot marijuana growing facility is underway in Warwick at the site of a former state prison.

The Citiva project on State School Road will provide medical marijuana to the company's dispensaries in Dutchess County, New York City and upstate.

Officials say it will also bring about 100 jobs and thousands of dollars in tax revenue to the neighborhood. Citiva bought the property for about $500,000.

"They'll become the anchor to launch the rest of the tech park," says Warwick Supervisor Mike Sweeton. "I can't tell you how excited I am for the future here."

Growing will begin next year with plants ready for distribution by fall.

The facility will be the second of its kind in Orange County.
