Report of gunman prompts massive Yonkers police response

YONKERS -

A report of a possible gunman on the roof of a building in Yonkers prompted a massive police response Monday evening.

Police tell News 12 they received an anonymous call about a possible shooter on top of a building on Caryl Place around 9 p.m.

Dozens of police officers and emergency crews swarmed the area and closed off the street as the search for a suspect began. The K-9 unit was brought in as well as NYPD and air support.

Police searched all over, but say officers did not see a gun, no gun was recovered from the scene, and no shots were fired.

People in the neighborhood say they're relieved no one was hurt and they're thankful for the massive response.  "You don't know whether it's real or not so you have to check it out to protect this city," says Andrew Gary, of Yonkers.
