Son of Eastchester PD chief allegedly stole father’s gunPosted: Updated:
The son of an Eastchester police chief was arrested and charged with allegedly stealing his father's gun, the Westchester District Attorney’s Office confirmed Friday.
They say 19-year-old Keith Bonci, the son of Chief Tim Bonci, was arrested after police found a firearm in his possession.
Westchester County police, who were given the case by Eastchester police, say an investigation began back in June when Eastchester police were alerted that a .25-caliber handgun owned by Chief Bonci was missing from the family's home.
Shortly after, county police say that New Rochelle police pulled over Keith Bonci while he was travelling in his girlfriend's car, and found the weapon.
Sources say it was in the trunk of that car.
The Westchester DA says Keith Bonci surrendered to county police Tuesday, and he was formally charged with criminal possession of a weapon.
He will be arraigned in New Rochelle City Court on Aug. 7.
Keith Bonci's attorney told News 12 that the gun in question was never loaded or fully operational while it was out of the chief's possession.
