North Hempstead considers banning gas-powered leaf blowers

The town of North Hempstead is considering a ban on gas-powered leaf blowers during the summer months.
Officials say they cause pollution and make much more noise than battery-powered blowers.
Town Supervisor Judy Bosworth says other communities have made the move and they believe it will improve the quality of life for residents.
“This is just a more environmentally friendly way to go,” she said.
The town says it will eventually hope to ban gas-powered blowers altogether.
One landscaper told News 12 that doing away with gas-powered blowers is self-defeating.
“Now you're going to need to charge on site. You're either going to run a big truck and send out emissions or you're going to need to run a generator and we've accomplished nothing," said Evan Dackow, of Nassau Suffolk Landscape Gardeners' Association.
