A fast-moving storm brought down trees and power lines in the Hudson Valley on Tuesday.

As the storm swept through the area, a tree on Cherry Lane in Airmont snapped from about 12 feet up, according to authorities. It then fell across the road, knocking out power along with it.

Crews with Orange & Rockland worked to chop up the tree and remove it from the road before it opened back up to traffic.

Authorities say that the way it fell knocked out power to parts of Airmont and Upper Saddle River, New Jersey. About 500 homes were affected.

Amid falling trees and downed power lines, an unoccupied storage facility on Chestnut Ridge Road in Spring Valley was struck by lightning, caught fire and required the response of 40 firefighters.

In Nanuet, power crews had to replace a transformer on James Drive. Neighbors say they were left without power, though for just a few hours.
