Officials discuss solutions to overpass collision issue

Posted: Updated:
RYE BROOK -

Westchester County Executive George Latimer met with state and local leaders in Rye Brook Friday to come up with a plan to help truckers avoid hitting overpasses in the county.

So far, there have been 30 bridge strikes this year on the Hutchinson River Parkway. The King Street overpass has earned the distinction of the most struck bridge in the state.

The plan could include new, dramatic signage, educating state truckers on Westchester parkways and working with state transportation officials to target mapping software companies.

Latimer says they are also considering height restriction barriers.

Whatever funding is needed for a solution to the issue would ultimately come from the state.
