RYE BROOK -

An Uber driver is facing criminal charges Friday for allegedly trying to sexually assault a woman on her way home to Rye Brook.

Iqbal Hussain, 26, was arrested Tuesday nearly a month after police say he picked up a 38-year-old female passenger in New York City while working as an Uber driver. Police say the woman fell asleep in the car during the ride back to her home in Rye Brook.

According to police, the woman woke up on the side of the Hutchinson River Parkway with Hussain in the back seat sitting next to her. Police say Hussain tried to put his hands up her dress, but the woman was able to fight him off.

Police say the woman fractured her shoulder during the incident.

A spokesperson for Uber tells News 12, "What's been described is deeply upsetting. The individual cannot access the app and we've been in contact with local authorities to share information that could be helpful in their proceedings."

Hussain was fired from Uber and is now facing two criminal charges. He's due back in court next week.
