Ex-New Castle officer charged in connection to 2016 hit-and-runPosted: Updated:
A former New Castle officer has been charged in connection to a hit-and-run that happened nearly two years ago.
According to a felony complaint, 25-year-old Raymond Beckley was driving his truck along Hale Avenue in White Plains back on Nov. 13, 2016 when he allegedly hit two pedestrians around 10:30 p.m. The complaint also says he “rapidly fled the scene in his damaged pickup truck and left the two injured pedestrians bleeding on the street."
Beckley, now facing felony charges, is accused of leaving the scene of an incident and tampering with evidence after allegedly repairing the damage on his truck and taking it out of state.
Court documents say hours before the accident he resigned from the New Rochelle Police Department, only to begin a new job serving with the New Castle police force the following day. Authorities there confirm he left the department in January 2017.
Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino released a statement saying in part, “A police officer in any jurisdiction needs to be held to the high standards for which he is sworn to uphold. Those who were injured deserve justice."
He was released on $5,000 bail.
Beckley is due back in court next month.
