Tree takes down power lines in Yonkers

YONKERS -

Crews spent the Fourth of July cleaning up on Vesta Place in Yonkers after some powerful storms knocked down a large tree.

Neighbors on Vesta Place say they heard what sounded like an explosion when a massive tree was toppled during a round of storms late Tuesday afternoon.

Branches smashed into some cars and took down power lines.

The fallen tree was removed but dozens of homes in the area remained without power Wednesday. Con Ed crews were working to restore power to anxious homeowners amid the high temperatures.
