WHITE PLAINS -

Students in the White Plains will be heading in a greener direction come next school year.

The White Plains School District unveiled five new all-electric school buses today, confirming the district's role as one of the greenest school districts in New York State and the nation.

Con Edison and bus contractor National Express are sharing the costs of paying for the buses. The buses operate without fuel, which provides a long-term cost-saving measure. “We talk about recycling, we talk about sustainability with our students every day, so to be the first school district in the state of New York to have the first five all-electric buses is really exciting,” says School Superintendent Joseph Ricca.

Ricca says the electric buses will be running as scheduled starting the beginning of the next school year. He adds that the vision is to be fully electric in the years to come.
