NEW ROCHELLE -

A BMW SUV sustained damage after it was hit by a tire that got loose from a Toyota traveling in the opposite direction Monday.

The incident occurred on the Hutchinson River Parkway around 7 a.m.

The Toyota was traveling northbound when it lost its left front tire. The tire then bounced over the median and smashed into the BMW’s windshield.

“Thank God there was no serious injuries. Just the people in the SUV got minor injuries and a few cuts from the glass that shattered,” said Police Officer Paul Stasaivis.

Mother and daughter Bonnie and Brooke Ackerman, of Rye Brook, were traveling in the SUV. The driver of the Toyota, Geralda Decimus, of White Plains, was not injured.

Police are still investigating exactly why the tire came off. They say it could have to do with some shoddy shop work recently done on the Toyota.
