ALBANY -

A new restriction on tanning beds in New York is moving forward.

The state Senate voted to approve a bill that would block anyone under 18 from using a tanning bed.

Right now, the current law bans 16-year-olds from using tanning beds, but allows 17-year-olds to use UV radiation devices if they have a parent or legal guardian sign a consent form.  The proposed law would close this loophole.

The bill now heads to the desk of Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
