New Rochelle superintendent not renewing his contract

Posted: Updated:
NEW ROCHELLE -

The superintendent of New Rochelle schools announced Friday that he will not be renewing his contract.

Dr. Brian Osborne, the leader of the New Rochelle School District, says he wants to pursue other opportunities while staying in education.

“I want to provide the district and Board of Education with ample time to continue the progress we made and the good work going on here,” he said.

The announcement comes amid the district's probe into allegations of grade inflation, as well as student violence during the school year.

In January, three violent incidents, including a fatal stabbing involving students from the high school, seemingly plagued the district for months.

The district has since launched a task force to help combat the problem.

While it's been a challenging year, Osborne says he is grateful for his experiences.

Osborne will remain superintendent for the next year until his contract expires in June 2019.
