The New Jersey Bell Labs building has been transformed into a so-called “metroburb” now called Bell Works.
The building was recently named New Jersey’s most iconic building. For decades it housed the most innovative scientific organization in the world. Innovations like transistors, cellular technology and solar cells were created there.
Now as Bell Works, the building is home to several smaller tech companies all sharing space. There is also retail and a branch of the local library.
The concept is the brainchild of developer Ralph Zucker who says that he saw potential in the architecture of the building. He says that it was designed to foster collaboration, where scientists from different labs may gather to bounce ideas off one another.
The office space is now about 80 percent leased, and more companies are coming every day.
