MOUNT VERNON -

A Mount Vernon DPW employee allegedly drank his way out of a job.

The man was terminated Tuesday after being arrested for DWI while working the Westchester Jerk Festival on Prospect Avenue Sunday afternoon.

City officials say 40-year-old Avenish Persaud, a building maintenance employee for 15 years with the city, hit a police car with an officer inside, while working.

Authorities say the female officer wasn't hurt, and there was no damage to the patrol car or the DPW bucket truck, but Persaud was given a Breathalyzer test and failed.

Sources say alcohol was found inside the vehicle.
