Woman says pit bull mauled her dog to death
A woman says a pit bull mauled her dog to death while out for a walk in East New York.
Yvette Gibson says the dog charged out of an open door three days ago and killed her dog, Ming. She posted video to Facebook after discovering her dog wasn't breathing, telling police through sobs that Ming was her emotional support animal.
Gibson says she's been too scared to return to where it happened, afraid the pit bull may attack again. She says police have not done enough, but police say it's out of their hands and an unexpected attack between two animals.
"They were supposed to remove that dog and bring it in for rabies," Gibson said. "I was bitten."
Neighbors claim the pit bull's owner died about a year ago and family members have been stopping by to feed and walk her. Some say she just had a litter of puppies and was being territorial.
Gibson says those are just "excuses" and she hopes some city agency will take notice so that Ming didn't die in vain.
News 12 reached out to the Health Department for comment but did not hear back.
