Orange County remains in state of emergencyPosted: Updated:
Orange County remained in a state of emergency Thursday as cleanup and efforts to restore power to tens of thousands of people continued.
Central Hudson crews were out in full force in Newburgh where thousands of customers were without power in the aftermath of a tornado.
Winds of up to 85 mph tore through Tuesday, leaving behind a path of destruction. Some homes had their roofs torn off, while others were crushed by uprooted trees.
Central Hudson expected most power to be restored by Friday, with some areas possibly without service until Sunday.
The Newburgh school district distributed food Thursday at 300 Gidney Ave. Dry ice and water were available at the Armory on South Williams Street. Public phone charging stations were also set up at that location.
