Business Briefs: Roku, Twitter, ESPN & NetflixPosted: Updated:
Roku suffered an outage last night, leaving users unable to access channels like Netflix and YouTube. Some devices showed users a warning from the FBI saying the channel was removed due to copyright infringement. Roku resolved the issue after more than five hours, according to Cheddar. It's not clear how many people were impacted by the outage, but Roku says it was only a small percentage.
Twitter is trying a new approach to protect users from abuse. Instead of banning frequently reported users, the site will instead use a new algorithm to hide and filter nasty tweets. A test of the new technology found abuse reports decline by eight percent. CEO Jack Dorsey says the move is meant to take the burden of reporting incidents off of the users being harassed.
ESPN and Netflix are teaming up. The two will work together to produce a 10-hour documentary series about Michael Jordan and the 1990s Chicago Bulls. The show will be called "The Last Dance" and is slated to premiere on both outlets next year.
