The Mamaroneck Diner was still awaiting approval to reopen from the Westchester Health Department Monday evening, two days after it closed due to contamination concerns.
The village's landmark eatery abruptly shut down Saturday after customers complained on social media about stomach problems and vomiting. Some said they wound up in the hospital.
News 12 has learned that staff members at the diner had contracted norovirus, which they spread to some customers.
Workers spent much of Monday cleaning and decontaminating the restaurant while it was closed down.
The Health Department did not return calls seeking comment. The diner management says it anticipates reopening in time for dinner Tuesday.
