One person has died and another is injured following a small plane crash in Orange County Saturday morning, officials say.
State police say the plane went down in a grassy field near Dolsontown Road in Wallkill around 9:15 a.m.
Authorities say the single-engine Aeronca Champion plane had two people aboard when it went down. One person was pronounced dead, while the other suffered injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening, officials say.
Their identities have not been released.
Workers at a motorcycle shop near the crash site say they took some of their ATVs to help police.
"When we got there, there was one gentlemen who had already pulled himself out of the plane," says one witness. "He was pretty beat up, and then we just used some of our four-wheel drives to work with the EMS."
It's unclear where the plane was headed, or where it originated from, and the cause of the crash is not known at this time. The FAA and NTSB will investigate.
