An 82-year-old man lost control of his car Friday afternoon, striking a guardrail and nearly crashing into the platform of the Fleetwood train station.
Witnesses say they heard the man’s silver Toyota speed down West Grand Street in Mount Vernon as if the pedal was stuck. The driver was not injured in the crash.
Peter Fleming told News 12 he saw the entire incident.
“I saw him go right into the guardrail, then it was an explosion, and then I ran and called 911," said Fleming. "It was like nothing I'd ever seen in my life."
Crews cleaned up shards of glass and metal less than an hour after the accident. It caused 30-minute delays on the Harlem line.
