A 17-year-old Orange County high school senior was killed in a car crash on Wednesday after police say he lost control of his car and hit a tree.
Police say John West III crashed into a utility pole in the afternoon along Route 208 in Blooming Grove.
District officials say that grief counselors and therapy dogs were on hand at Washingtonville High School to reassure upset students, faculty and staff.
They say he was a talented musician and former varsity athlete who set aside sports this year to work and save for college.
Students tell News 12 that a memorial was set up in West's parking space.
