BEDFORD -

Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino announced the arrests and indictments of three former New York state Department of Corrections employees.

The former employees are accused of having sexual and romantic relationships with inmates.

"In doing so, they compromised the safety and security of other corrections employees, the other inmates in their care, and all of us living in Westchester County," said Scarpino

Yonkers resident Garth Trail is accused of engaging in a sexual act with an inmate in the kitchen area of Taconic Correctional Facility, a women's prison in Bedford. The 61-year-old is the former head cook at the prison. His last known address is on Woodlawn Avenue.

Correction Officer Iran Colon was arraigned on a 19-count indictment stemming from alleged illegal activities involving a female inmate at Taconic.

Bronx resident Melissa Hill has been charged with misconduct in connection to a relationship she allegedly had with an inmate while working as a correction officer at Sing Sing prison in Ossining.

Corrections officials say their investigation began last September when an inmate at the Taconic Correctional Facility was found in possession of a cellphone. News 12 has been told that the investigation eventually led to Colon.

All three suspects have either resigned or been suspended from their jobs. They have all been released and are due back in court in the coming weeks.
