A fire destroyed a popular Mount Vernon restaurant today.

Officials say flames broke out in the kitchen at the Lincoln Barbeque Restaurant on West Lincoln Avenue around 10 a.m.

Firefighters said putting the fire out was no easy task because it could only be extinguished from the outside since it was too dangerous to move inside.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but officials believe the fire had been burning for a while.

News 12 was told two firefighters were taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
