There was a rush-hour delivery Monday morning after a mother went into labor early.
Sathya Priya Senthi says that her baby wasn’t due until May 10, but she went into labor early. Senthi says that she and her husband took an Uber to a midtown hospital but got stuck in traffic right outside the Lincoln Tunnel.
She says that she knew that the baby wasn’t going to wait for the traffic to subside, so the Uber driver pulled off to the shoulder. Three Port Authority police officers arrived just in time to help deliver the baby.
“It was really helpful because without them I don’t have anybody,” Senthi said. “My husband was the only one. So with them I felt comfortable.”
Baby Sailakshmi weighed in at 6 pounds, 3 ounces.
Both mom and baby are doing well and resting at Hoboken University Medical Center.
