A Melville fire chief was honored for rescuing an East Northport man moments before his car was engulfed in flames.
He was pulled from the wreckage by Third Assistant Chief Jason Bernfeld, from the Melville Fire Department, who spotted the car in the woods as he was driving to work.
On Saturday, Connors presented Chief Bernfeld with the Medal of Valor during a surprise presentation at the Department's 71st Installation Dinner and Awards Ceremony.
Connors and his family got to thank the chief in person for his lifesaving actions.
