Hundreds of Girl Scouts take part in 'Girls Go the Distance' event

More than 1,000 Girl Scouts gathered Sunday at Old Bethpage Village Restoration to take part in the ninth annual Girls Go The Distance event.
The girls participated in games and activities to promote physical and mental health.
Girl Scouts were able to earn up to four patches at the event, including one for learning about guide dogs.
The patch was created by 11-year-old junior Girl Scout Jane Gurney.
Gurney says she was inspired by a friend of her father, who is blind and had guide dog.  She says her work began as an independent study project and then turned into the guide dog patch.
