Mount Vernon mayor's half-brother arrested on forged instrument chargePosted: Updated:
The 43-year-old half-brother of Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Thomas has been arrested form possession of a forged instrument.
The mayor's older brother, Preston Thomas, was arrested Wednesday in Mount Vernon after police say they pulled him over for driving with fake New Jersey registration tags.
Commissioner of Public Works Joseph Nigro said the incident took place during his break time. Nigro said his DPW job duties didn't involve operating city vehicles or heavy machinery.
Preston Thomas is not the only Thomas brother who's been in trouble with the law. Just a week after Mayor Thomas took office, his brother Henry George Thomas pleaded guilty to selling guns out of the firehouse where he worked. He immediately left his job with the city.
Mayor Richard Thomas remains in legal hot water after he was arrested in March. He is accused by the state attorney general of grand larceny and public corruption. He's due back in court next month but insists he's innocent.
Preston Thomas is being held at the Westchester County Jail. He was denied bail because of multiple felony convictions. The mayor's office has yet to comment on the arrest.
