Orange County contractor accused of scamming homeowners

GREENVILLE -

An Orange County contractor is accused of scamming thousands of dollars from unsuspecting homeowners.

Authorities say Charles Neustadt, of JC Builders, took money to build homes but then never completed the work.

Adam Svizzero, of Greenville, says Neustadt bailed halfway through building his dream home.

"Every time I reached out, he'd delay me with a very vague response,” he says.

Orange County prosecutors allege Neustadt, whose company is based out of Florida, New York, stole at least $100,000 from customers, all with similar complaints.

While Neustadt now faces criminal charges, Svizzero and others are left with a stack of bills and a project that's far from done.

Svizzero says he has $45,000 in liens. Because of the liens, Svizzero says the bank froze his construction loan, forcing him to take out personal loans while already over budget to finish the work himself.

Neustadt is charged with fraud and theft of services. News 12’s attempts to reach him were unsuccessful.
