Library staff trains for active shooter
Posted: Updated:MOUNT VERNON -
Staff members at the Mount Vernon Public Library received training today on how to respond to an active shooter situation.
Officers with the Mount Vernon Police Department hosted the event. The training began with a power point presentation which included active shooter situations in the past.
Library officials say the recent surge in mass shootings across the country prompted them to organize the training. "We thought that a library is an open space. Nobody is talking about how to protect yourself in an open space like a library," says one staffer.
The Mount Vernon Public Library is the first library in Westchester to offer active shooter training to staff.
