2 kindergartners leave school, wander onto busy street

Police say two kindergartners were able to walk away from their Mount Vernon school and wander onto a busy street.
The children walked off the Pennington Elementary school campus after school had ended last week.
The school is undergoing construction on the campus but allows students to play on the playground after school hours. That’s when the kindergartners came out of the school and out of a gate before it was locked.  The pair headed out to a very busy Gramatan Avenue.
A business owner spotted the two boys, who turned out to be cousins, and called police.
The school subsequently called a locksmith.

The children who walked out of the gate were sent to the principal’s office.
