Neighbors pitch in to clean up storm damage

Over a week after the first of two nor’easters walloped the region, much of Rockland County is still littered with fallen trees, debris and downed power lines.
While Rockland County and Clarkstown Highway Department crews were out Saturday clearing the roads, some residents took it upon themselves to assist with the cleanup.

"Everybody is doing their part,” said Michael Berhille, of Valley Cottage. “Everybody is being neighborly."
Berhille told News 12 that neither the town nor county helped to remove a massive tree blocking traffic on Pine Tree Court since it didn’t fall on power lines or cause outages. He said the tree stretched across the entire road and onto his neighbor’s lawn.
"The neighbors all gathered together and chopped it up,” he said, adding that he is hopeful that crews will come and pick up the debris.
