Van Wyck JHS student accused of making threats

Posted: Updated:

A school in Wappingers Falls in Dutchess County has stepped up security after a seventh-grader allegedly said he was going to shoot up the school.

Authorities pulled the 12-year-old student from Van Wyck Junior High School, and police are investigating. They said early Tuesday evening that the threat might be nothing more than a rumor.

Kevin Keene, the chief of police in East Fishkill, said students are safe.

"There's no reason kids shouldn't go to school," he said. "We are having a hard time connecting facts to some of the statements that are going around."

Still, officials said some parents kept their children home Tuesday.
