Katonah school reopens after threatening online postPosted: Updated:
Students are returning to a private school in Northern Westchester after a threatening online post shut down the campus last week.
Classes were canceled on Friday at the Harvey School in Katonah due to that message posted on social media.
The violent and threatening post was discovered on the Harvey School Twitter page around 6:30 a.m. by an administrator. It was quickly removed.
The threat follows several racially charged posts on social media that some students at Harvey shared with News 12. The school called the series of events hurtful and said counselors will be available for students. "There's so many people copying each other just to get a rise out of it. I don't think they're really thinking about what they're saying and how serious it is," says Victoria Friedman, of Bedford.
Police say there is no connection between Friday's threat and the racism on social media.
School officials say there will be an increased police presence on the campus to monitor the situation.
