Two artists who lost their studios in a massive fire in Yonkers last year are remembering what they lost and celebrating what they now have.

Sculptor David Fischweicher says he lost everything on his third floor studio in the Alexander Smith Carpet Mills fire except 40 pieces he says some firefighters helped him save.

"We found a hole in the wall and they handed me some pieces through a wall," he says.

Former New York Times photographer-turned-painter Lee Romero says he didn't fare as badly in the fire as Fishweicher.

"My studio had nothing but water damage," he says.

The building where the fire happened is now for sale. Until it's sold and made safe again, the artists can't get into the space. They say hundreds of pieces are locked inside, of which they wonder are damaged goods or salvageable treasures.
