MOUNT VERNON -

A man is dead after being hit by a Metro-North train in Mount Vernon on Monday.

Police say the death occurred during afternoon rush at the Fleetwood Station, causing delays on the Harlem Line for hours.

Workers at nearby businesses say it was a chaotic scene as passengers were evacuated off the train. "I've been here a long time and that’s the first time I’ve seen something like that happen, we've never had anything at the train station here before," says Peter Fleming, of Mount Vernon.

MTA officials say the man was not authorized to be on the tracks.
