Latimer signs law banning gun shows on county property in Westchester

WHITE PLAINS -

Westchester County Executive George Latimer signed a new law Monday that bans gun shows on county property.

Latimer had signed an executive order to ban the shows, but it's now the law with the help of a supermajority of Democrats on the County Board of Legislators.

The ban was the first major piece of legislation passed by the veto-proof supermajority.

The board's new chairman, Ben Boykin, insists they intend to flex their newfound power to pass a significant number of left-leaning laws that would protect immigrants living in the county, mandate paid sick leave for local companies and ban salary history on job applications.

Boykin says that after years of butting heads with Republican Rob Astorino, it’s nice to have fellow Democrat George Latimer as county executive and a shared agenda for the first time in a long time.
