A massive underground power line project is due to bring $31 million to five towns and villages in Rockland.

The Champlain Hudson Power Express is a 330-mile power line that will send electricity from Canada to New York City.

Village of Haverstraw Mayor Michael Kohut say he and most other elected officials in Haverstraw, West Haverstraw, Stony Point and Clarkstown voted grudgingly in favor of the project last month.

Kohut says the votes were positive because of the money it would bring in, but grudging feelings came due to the construction it would cause.

The power line will mostly run under 9W after town officials protested the original route that took it under historic sites and through neighborhoods.

Construction is expected to begin early next year.
