Family displaced after house fire in Mount Vernon

MOUNT VERNON -

At least one family was displaced after a fire tore through a home in Mount Vernon Saturday morning.

The fire occurred at the home on 13th Street around 12:30 a.m. Saturday.

Fire officials say the bitter cold created a challenge in putting out the flames.

"Extreme temperatures makes firefighting a lot harder and all the water froze up, but there are no injuries reported to any of the firefighters," says Deputy Fire Chief James Lang.

Officials say the fire began on the first floor of the home, but an official cause is unknown at this time.
