Rockland DA to run for state Supreme Court judge
Posted: Updated:Rockland County District Attorney Tom Zugibe announced Thursday that he's running for state Supreme Court judge.
Zugibe shared the news at the Nyack Seaport that he is running for justice of the Supreme Court for the 9th Judicial District, which covers Rockland, Westchester, Dutchess, Putnam and Orange counties. He’s served as Rockland’s DA for 10 years.
Zugibe believes he'd be the right fit for the job due to his nearly 40 years of experience in the New York legal system. "It gave me a perspective on all sides of the equation. I believe I can be fair. I think people know my reputation for integrity, compassion, for sense of community, for my sense of family relationships."
If Zugibe does prevail in the November election, he says he will resign as Rockland DA at the end of the year and will appoint someone to fill his seat. "In terms on who would replace me, I don't know. Names have been flowing already."
The next district attorney election is in 2019.
