The Brooklyn Historical Society is bringing Brooklyn’s history to life with a new multimedia exhibition in Dumbo.
“Waterfront” is the first major exhibit on the history of Brooklyn’s coastline, with stories of industries, workers, activists, families and more.
The exhibition traces the history of the borough’s waterfront and reveals the global significance of the coastline.
"We took a lot of our cues from this remarkable and historic building we are standing in,” said one of the organizers of the exhibit. “A massive warehouse that sort of shapes the history of Brooklyn's waterfront and the 19th and 20th century."
Visitors can learn about a number of things, including the untold stories of enslaved residents of Brooklyn, iconic products and the waterfront’s mid-century economic decline.
Organizers say the exhibit also provides hands-on opportunities for younger visitors to dress up and play.
The exhibit even offers two installations that allow visitors to travel back in time.
The exhibit will launch Saturday and is free with a suggested donation.
