Events honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Posted: Updated:Events honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. were held across the Hudson Valley on Monday.
One of the largest events in Westchester County was held at the DoubleTree Hotel in Tarrytown where nearly 600 people showed up for the 17th Annual Legacy Youth Awards. The African Men of Westchester hosted the event, which honored more than a dozen students for social action and showing a 'spirit of love.'
Also, the Nepperhan Community Center hosted a dinner at the Grand Roosevelt Ballroom. Organizers say its mission is to embrace all families, without discriminating based on race, ethnicity, economic status or geographical boundaries.
In Rockland County, more than 150 organizations gathered at Ramapo High School to mark the holiday. This year’s goal was to teach people of all ages about the importance of equality.
