YONKERS -

A Yonkers man is facing charges for allegedly throwing a pit bull down two flights of stairs.

Riley the pit bull is currently at the Yonkers Animal Shelter, while is owner Frank Gallo Sr. faces animal cruelty charges based on witness reports. The SPCA is seeking an adoptive home for the dog.

"No living creature should ever be treated in that manner," says Ernest Lungaro, director of the SPCA's Humane Law Enforcement. "There's no reason for it."

The dog, however, survived the incident without a scratch, authorities say.

"We were surprised," Lungaro says. "Because on all accounts, that dog went down two flights of stairs."
