Dozens are displaced after a fire broke out in Mamaroneck early Friday morning.

Crews say they believe the fire started on the fourth floor of a five-story apartment building on Dillon Road.

Officials say the entire building had to be evacuated, but residents who live on the side of the building where the fire broke out are now all displaced.

The fire chief tells News 12 that the call came in around 4:30 a.m. He says crews were able to control the flames in about four to five minutes.

Chief Paul Tororella says 35 firefighters responded to the scene and managed to contain the damage to just the one apartment the fire started in. Crews believe it was a mattress fire.

"The fire damage is contained to that one bedroom. The smoke damage is to that apartment, and other apartments and the hallway.” Says Tororella.

News 12 is told that eight people were taken to the hospital, but no one was seriously injured. Around 30 people are displaced.

The Red Cross has set up shelter at a VFW in Larchmont for those displaced.

Crews say they hope residents will be able to be back in the building by the end of the weekend.
