Democrats seek probe into Sen. Klein allegations

PELHAM -

Democrats are calling for an investigation into one of their own, following sexual misconduct accusations against longtime state Sen. Jeff Klein.

A former staffer named Erica Vladimer says Klein forcibly kissed her at an Albany bar on March 31, 2015.

The accuser identified herself in a Huffington Post story. She says she went out for a cigarette with the senator before he "shoved his tongue" down her throat.

Klein denies the allegation, although he says he was at the bar.

According to the senator, the kiss never happened.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo and state Sen. Andrea Stewart-Cousins, both Democrats, have called for an immediate independent investigation. Sen. David Carlucci, a longtime Klein ally, also says he supports a probe.

Voters say the accusation is surprising, but many are giving Klein the benefit of the doubt.

"They should investigate to a certain extent," says Sherry Webster, a Pelham resident. "If he's innocent, he's innocent. Innocent until proven guilty, right?"
