First-graders participate in peace walk at Hastings elementary school

The spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was honored at an elementary school Thursday in Hastings.
First graders at Hillside Elementary School spent time remembering Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a peace march around the halls.
The school also showed students part of Dr. King’s “I have a dream” speech to educate them on civil rights.
"I hope that they take away that the sense of we are all the same,” says Leigh Galanis, a retired teacher at the school. “We talked a lot about [how what’s on the] outsiders doesn't matter, it's about what we have on the inside."
