Main break shuts down water in New Rochelle

Posted: Updated:

A main break cut off water to one New Rochelle neighborhood this morning.

Police say the pipe burst around 5:15 a.m. at 74 Van Etten Blvd.

Authorities initially considered evacuating some residents, but they say they decided not to after checking the local basements.

Authorities closed part of Van Etten Boulevard for crews to make repairs.

Workers say they hope to have the problem fixed by later this evening. They say the warm temperatures following a deep freeze may have led to the break.

Meanwhile, residents are using bottled water because they are without plumbing.
