Freezing temperatures leave Sleepy Hollow family without water

SLEEPY HOLLOW -

A family in Sleepy Hollow has been spending their new year without water due to frozen pipes that the building's management company has yet to fix.

Luis Amay and his family of five rang in the first few days of 2018 without water in their second-floor apartment on Cortlandt Street.

“I've not had water for like four days, and I can't cook for my kids and my wife can't cook,” he says.

The family has been buying bottled water and eating out every day, something Luis Amay says he can't afford to do anymore.

The water problem stems from a vacant space down below on the first floor.

“Down there, the first floor, they don't have insulation, sheet rock … that's why the pipes are frozen,” says Amay.

Amay says he called HFC Management, the property's management company responsible for maintaining the building and fixing any problems. He says no one came to fix the problem.

“When I called the property manager to see what's being done to fix the problem, I was on hold for 20 minutes and we still haven't heard back from them,” he says.
