ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - In New York state government news, the new year is bringing a minimum wage increase and a middle class tax cut.
The wage will go up around the state on New Year's Eve as part of the gradual, phased-in increase to $15 an hour.
The size of the increase varies around the state, with the minimum going from $11 to $13 an hour for most workplaces in New York City.
On Jan. 1, 4.4 million middle class New Yorkers will begin seeing a tax cut, with the average savings amount to $250.
Meanwhile, Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo continues to gradually reveal his 2018 agenda, with near daily announcements of proposals including water quality protections, investments in downtown redevelopment and money for gang prevention.
